Students FAQ

Why should I participate in the survey?

The survey is your chance to provide feedback on your accommodation experiences at university. Whether you're in halls, a council flat or your very own houseboat, we want to hear from you.

Participating in the survey also enters you into a free prize draw. The prize changes each year but is usually to the value of around £500.

When and how can I participate?

The NSHS is online between February and July each year. If your university or students' union is participating then you may well receive an invitation email from them, or see an advert on their websites.

You don't have to wait for an invitation though - simply visit this website between February and July and you'll find a link to the survey from our home page.

How are the results used?

A National Report is produced with summary statistics which is used by universities, students' unions and other student support organisations to help them understand the broad issues affecting student accommodation across the UK.

In addition, participating institutions also receive a supplementary report which provides stats and charts specifically relating to their students, to help highlight local issues. Institutions also have access to all your individual comments so please tell them what you think!

Will my responses be anonymous?

Of course. The only personal data we ask for is your university email address. This is so that we can confirm you are a current student and we can contact you in the event that you win the prize draw. Your email address is not linked directly to your responses, it is not passed to any other organsations and it is destroyed as soon as it is no longer required.

Full details of the privacy policy will be available when the survey is live. You will be asked to read and accept the policy before participating.
